The Kansas Department of Commerce is marking National Community Development Week with its first-ever Community Impact Tour — in this case, meaning a stop in Emporia next week.
Department of Commerce representatives will stop at the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial, on April 25 to observe a new innovation classroom and the expansion of a clay studio. The visit is tentatively set for 8:30-9 am and precedes a visit to MT Networks in Waverly from 9:45-10:15 am. At that stop, Commerce representatives will learn more about expanded broadband infrastructure in previously unserved parts of Coffey County.
Department of Commerce will also stop at Overbrook’s Sunflower Bakery from 3:30-4 pm Thursday. learning about the business’ emphasis on community education for cooking skills and healthy cooking methods.
Community Development Week starts Monday and continues through April 25. Established in 1986, it is designed to recognize the importance and impact of the Community Development Block Grant program. This year’s activities at the state level are designed to emphasize progress in childcare, downtown revitalization, housing and infrastructure.
