The Emporia State softball teams posted a split on Wednesday against Drury.
The Lady Hornets claimed game one 3-1 and took the lead scoring on a pair of fielder’s choices in the second inning. ESU added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly. The Lady Hornets were outhit 7-4 in the game but Drury committed two errors to just one for ESU. Jordan Harrison (13-7) worked around seven hits to give up just one run while striking out five on the way to the complete game victory.
The roles reversed in game two with Emporia State outhitting Drury 6-4 but unable to get the offense moving in a 2-1 defeat to the Panthers. Kinsey Perine singled to drive home a run in the fourth but that was it for the Black & Gold. Jayda VanAckeren (5-4) was solid lasting 5.0 innings and giving up just two runs but had three walks and took the loss. ESU (27-21) hosts senior day Saturday against the Newman Jets. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m. Coverage begins at 11:30 a.m. on the Hornet Sports Network/Mix 104.9.
