For months, Emporia Spanish Speakers Director LeLan Dains has been working to expand the group’s reach across Kansas and into neighboring states.
The latest example: the brand-new Un Milion de Amigos fundraising campaign for Kansas Spanish Speakers, designed to benefit bilingual programming, as well as education, cultural events and community outreach projects in and around Kansas. The overall objective is to reach at least one million people — and to have a million people donate $1 each — but the basic goal is to develop connections and support.
Locally, this comes as Emporia Spanish Speakers has recently opened office space inside Southeast KansasWORKS as part of a rapidly-developing partnership. It’s also looking to create a community space and short-term lodging.
