After completing its slate of finalist interviews Tuesday, the Emporia Recreation Commission Board may well select its new director Thursday.
The board has scheduled a special meeting for 2 pm at Lee Beran Recreation Center, officially to interview, discuss or consider applicants or future employees.
Board members interviewed current Interim Director Amanda Gutierrez, the Rec Commission’s longtime assistant operations director, and John Mark Woolums, a former deputy director at Deerfield Park, Illinois. Fred Lowery, the current superintendent at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, interviewed last week.
Longtime director Tom McEvoy retired in December. McEvoy was either involved in or leading the Emporia Rec Commission operations for 38 years before his retirement.
