In the high school portion of the KU Relays in Lawrence, Emporia High’s Paige Newland finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 39-0.5. Chance Duncan finished 12th in the discus (158-6). RJ Tabares finished 15th in the 300m hurdles, while finishing 30th in the 110m hurdles prelims (15.13). Harley Smith finished 25th in the prelims of the 400m (1:00.45). Garrett LeBlanc finished 28th in the triple jump (41-3). The girls 4x100m relay team finished 67th (52.34) while the boys finished 44th (43.52). The girls 4x400m relay team finished 56th (4:23.71) while the boys finished 73rd (3:41.13). Saturday, Newland will compete in the long jump, Brody Duncan will also compete in the long jump, Chance Duncan will compete in the javelin. Areawide, Northern Heights’ Jaitlyn Johnson will throw the discus.
