The Emporia State baseball team unleashed an onslaught to powder Northeastern State in a doubleheader sweep Friday to sweep their three game series in Tahlequah, Okla.
In game one of the true doubleheader Friday, ESU only had three more hits than the RiverHawks but lapped NSU 18-5. The Hornets pounded 18 hits in the game and led 17-0 after the top of the fifth inning on the way to the run rule. The Hornets plated three in the first and second before going off for seven runs in the third. Logan Myers went 5-for-6 in the game with four runs driving in three while T. J. Racherbaumer finished 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs driving in five.
The Hornets continued their offensive attack in game three with a 20-4 victory to complete the sweep of the series scoring at least 18 runs in each game. NSU scored two in the bottom of the first to take their only lead before the Hornet offense scored the next 16 runs unanswered including a nine-run fifth inning for the Hornet’s best at bat of the year. Racherbaumer went 4-for-4 in game two and hit for just the second cycle in Emporia State’s NCAA era. Myers went 2-for-5 driving in five more runs. Racherbaumer’s three home runs on the day moved him into eighth on the ESU all-time list with 27 in his career.
The Hornets (21-19, 14-15 MIAA) are on the road Tuesday to wrap up their second MIAA midweek series at Fort Hays State. The Tigers have already claimed the series win with two previous victories this season over the Hornets. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
