Plans to reopen the intersection of 15th and Prairie in Emporia are being pushed back slightly.
During an interview with KVOE News Thursday, City Engineer Jim Ubert stated the city was planning to reopen 15th and Prairie, which has been closed as part of the 24th and Prairie water line replacement project, on Monday. However, it was announced Saturday that the reopening is being pushed back with Ubert telling KVOE News the delay is due to the line at the intersection not passing a recently performed pressure test.
Ubert, during an interview on KVOE’s Morning Show Thursday, stated plans were to have the project fully wrapped up by late next month and while speaking with Ubert Saturday, KVOE News asked if this setback would push those plans back as well. Ubert says the city’s contractor should be able to conduct the test again on Monday and if it passes, the intersection should be reopened shortly after, meaning only a day or two delay.
With roughly 6-8 weeks of work remaining on the entire project, and barring any significant complications, Ubert says the original end date of late May should still hold. Once the work on 15th and Prairie concludes, there will still be notable traffic adjustments as work will shift to and close the intersection of 12th and Prairie.
Work has been underway for nearly a year and has gone from the Water Treatment Plant at 24th and Industrial east to Prairie and south to 12th.
