The now-annual Lyon County Emergency Preparedness Fair stressed the importance of individual preparedness for any emergency Saturday.
The Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building played host to the event that welcomed hundreds of visitors and experts on a variety of preparedness topics. Organizer Jarrod Fell says it is important to have that variety available as developing an emergency preparedness plan may seem simple, however, it can, at times, be more complicated than one may think.
That said, Fell tells KVOE News, people are often surprised at how having even the simplest plans in place can help you weather any kind of emergency.
Fellow organizer Dr. Joseph Laudie agreed with Fell and stated that when it comes to having a plan in place, residents don’t have to go to “extremes.”
He also says it is important for individuals to understand that it is not just physical emergencies they should be preparing for.
Saturday’s event also included separate presentations on topics such as mental health triage, physical health self-triage and cyber security. Attendees were also well fed during the fair thanks to 300 hot dogs, which were made available by Newman Regional Health.
