The Emporia State tennis teams each fell on the road Friday against conference rival Northwest Missouri.
In the men’s matchup, the #49 Bearcats shaved the #37 Hornets 4-3. The Hornets took the doubles point with the decisive win at #1 doubles by #36 doubles team Alexis Mattenberger and Gwendal Mazuay . Mostafa Elbasnaly won at #2 singles to keep ESU in front. The dual came down to #6 singles but Hachem Fahem fell in three sets. The Hornets (10-6, 2-3 MIAA/GAC) step into cross division play in the MIAA/GAC facing #15 Harding on the road on Wednesday morning.
The Bearcats won close matches on the way to a 6-1 win over the Lady Hornets in their dual. ESU and Northwest split their first two matches before E-State fell in a tiebreaker in the third match to drop the doubles point. Three singles matches went to a third set, but only Perla Conde could secure a point with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at #3 singles to get the Lady Hornets on the board. ESU (8-9, 3-4 MIAA) is back home Friday hosting Arkansas-Fort Smith in a dual starting at 10:00 a.m at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.
