USD 252 Southern Lyon County has departed on its 14th Honor Flight.
A crowd gathered at Olpe School for the sendoff early Monday. Coordinator Megan McGuire at Olpe says the bonds forged by Honor Flight last well after everybody returns home.
Planning for an Honor Flight takes months. Much of that has to do with fundraising, but Coordinator Staci Garriot at Hartford says there is also a lot of student support involved.
This year’s trip involves 23 veterans, four of which are on the medical staff, and 23 students.
Meanwhile, USD 251 North Lyon County concluded its Honor Flight last week, while USD 245 Southern Coffey County returned from its own Honor Flight trip April 1.
Honor Flight pairs veterans with students on a two-day trip to and from Washington, DC. The tour features visits at many landmarks, historical monuments and other attractions.
