Jobless rates remain elevated over prior norms for Emporia and Lyon County.
The Kansas Department of Labor says Emporia’s jobless rate for March was 4.7 percent, above the February mark of 4.5 percent and the March 2024 number of 3.1 percent. Lyon County’s jobless rate was slightly lower, 4.5 percent, as opposed to 4.3 percent in February and 3.3 percent a year ago.
Areawide, county directions vary from February to March. Most area counties had small declines in their monthly jobless rates, and Coffey County had a full percentage-point dip from 5.7 to 4.7 percent — although that’s currently the area high. Morris County has the area low at 3.2 percent.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted rate remained flat at 3.8 percent between February and March. It was 3.3 percent a year ago.
