The Emporia High baseball team dropped two close games in the McPherson Quad on Tuesday. In Emporia High’s first game, the Spartans fell 4-3 to Great Bend and fell in their second game to Rose Hill, 4-2. Against Great Bend, Emporia High jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Great Bend responded with three runs, highlighted by a 2-run home run by Ian Premer. The Spartans made it 3-2 in the third on an RBI double by Andrew Ruxton. Chase Harrington tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single. Great Bend scored the game-winning run in the sixth. Ruxton took the loss on the mound in relief, going three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two strikeouts, and went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs. Against Rose Hill, the Spartans scored on a passed ball in the second and led 2-0 in the fifth on an RBI double by Landon Wohletz. Rose Hill scored all four of its runs in the sixth and hung on for the victory. Madden Seidl took the loss on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on two hits and recording 10 strikeouts. Wohletz went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Emporia High (9-6) travels to Manhattan on Friday.
