Burlingame boys basketball coach Eric West has stepped down as head coach after seven years of guiding the Bearcats and 11 years in the program.
West was approved as Burlingame’s next athletic director during USD 454’s Board of Education meeting on April 9. Along with coaching boys basketball at Burlingame, West is an assistant coach under Jeff Slater’s high school football program and is the head high school coach for track and field.
West said the timing was right to step down as head boys basketball coach.
West spent four seasons as an assistant under Creighton Winters before assuming the head coaching position in 2018. West has just completed his 24th year coaching this past winter with 20 at Burlingame.Prior to joining the boys staff at Burlingame, West was the head girls basketball coach for nine years.
West said he’s excited to continue his connections with his colleagues from a different perspective.
West will continue his coaching responsibilities in football and track and field when he assumes his athletic director duties this summer. West replaces Haley Tyson, who stepped down after two years as athletic director.
A search for Burlingame’s next boys basketball coach is underway.
