Laps 4 Landon went out with a bang Tuesday night.
The fundraiser “aged out” as the event’s namesake, Landon Dody, prepares to exit high school and attend Kansas State University this upcoming fall. As it did, people thronged to Emporia State University’s Student Recreation Building for games, prizes and an overall good time.
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth, Dody has been called an inspiration for his work to stay healthy and his numerous achievements as a high school athlete. He says that can work both ways.
The estimated total was around $13,000, putting the event well above $100,000 generated for cystic fibrosis research and care since it started. Longtime organizer Dr Jennifer Thomas says the uplifting nature of the event has helped it resonate with a lot of people.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that attacks both the respiratory and digestive systems by producing thickened mucus, digestive fluids, and sweat that can cause complications of the lungs and gastrointestinal tract.
Activities included a variety of games on the ESU Soccer Pitch, cornhole, a walking track, music, food, raffles and a silent auction.
