It appears traffic rearrangements due to a wreck causing significant bridge damage last week will take “several months” to finish.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority says repair plans are in progress after an “over-height” load hit the northbound Turnpike bridge over US Highway 50. Several factors remain under consideration, but the first step — temporary shoring before the actual repairs — has been determined and work will start in May.
At this time, traffic adjustments remain in place after the wreck April 18. The outside lane on the Turnpike bridge remains closed, along with a 12-foot width restriction, temporary 45 mph speed limit and an 80,000-pound weight limit as opposed to the 120,000-pound standard. The Emporia interchange remains open.
For US Highway 50, westbound traffic remains pushed to the inside eastbound lane, continuing head-to-head traffic in place since late last week.
Drivers can expect delays and need to plan for extra travel time while the repair project is underway.
