The Emporia High track and field teams competed in the Leitel Legacy Invite hosted by Lawrence Free State on Friday.
The Spartans finished ninth with 23 points. Chance Duncan won the discus with a throw of 162-9 and finished sixth in the javelin (162-6). RJ Tabares finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.82 and took fourth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 40.98.
The Lady Spartans finished 11th with 26 points. Paige Newland scored 18 points by winning the triple jump with a mark of 39-3.50, a new personal-best and took second in the long jump (17-6.25). The 4x100m relay team of Reagan Thompson, Harley Smith, Kaylee DeWitt and Newland finished third (51.37). Smith finished fifth in the 400m (1:00.58).
Emporia High will travel to Shawnee Heights on Friday.
