The Emporia High baseball team split its makeup doubleheader at Wichita West on Tuesday.
Wichita West won the first game, 7-1, before the Spartans salvaged a split with a 7-5 victory in nine innings in game two. In game one, the Pioneers set the tone by scoring four runs in the first and never looked back. The Spartans scored their lone run in the fourth on an RBI single by Andrew Ruxton. Micah Gray took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings. In game two, the Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Madden Seidl and Gray scoring on an error. The Pioneers scored one in the first and took a 3-2 lead through five. The Spartans tied the game at 3 in the sixth on an RBI double by Ruxton. Emporia High took the lead for good in the ninth by scoring four runs, a bases loaded walk by Gray, two runs on an error and a bases loaded walk by Chase Harrington. Seidl picked up the win in relief, going 1 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on one hit and three strikeouts. Owen Ruge went 7 1/3 innings, earning a no decision allowing three runs on five hits and nine strikeouts while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Emporia High (10-7) travels to Iola on Friday.
