The Emporia High boys golf team shot a season best 305 good for second place in the Class 5A State Preview at Emporia Golf Course on Thursday.
Nolan Jacob led the Spartans, finishing fifth with a 74. Jacob said he’s gaining confidence as the postseason nears.
Jared Johnson finished in a tie for eighth with a 75. Johnson said he’s found ways to pick up his team when others aren’t having their best round.
Will Walker and Chesney Erkel each finished in a tie for 15th with a 78. Hudson Sauder and Marley Harter each finished in a tie for 23rd with an 80.
Coach Rick Eckert said there’s still room to improve with multiple tournaments left before regionals.
Emporia High returns to the Emporia Golf Course for the Centennial League Championship at 1 p.m. Monday.
