The Emporia State track & field teams hosted the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at Welch Stadium in Emporia. Reigning conference and defending national champions Pittsburg State dominated winning the men’s title by a staggering 154.5 points while the women also lapped the field to win by 117.5 points. The Hornets finished fifth while the ESU women placed eighth. Ty Anderson finished in second place in the long jump and finished fourth in the 100m dash. Luke Grace finished third in the decathlon with a provisional qualifying score. Emmanuel Dukpe ran the second fastest time in school history in the 400m dash on Saturday and then bested it on Sunday to finish third.
Abigael Reid was the highlight on Championship Sunday at the event winning the MIAA title in the women’s 400m hurdles and is the second woman in program history to break the 1:00 mark in Lady Hornet history. Brooks Lowe placed third in the javelin with a throw of 226 feet-11 inches. Dukpe, Israel Domeh, Bryson Turner, and Braden Lipgens finished runner-up in the 4x400m relay. Anderson, Kingsley Bennett, Isaac Tarango, and Alden Mollerus finished third in the 4x100m relay. Max Neely finished third in the pole vault while Trenden Collins was fourth in the high jump. ESU has 17 provisional qualifying marks for the national championships. ESU will have the opportunity to participate in a Last Chance Qualifier beginning on Friday. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships begin May 22 in Pueblo, Colo.
