Former Emporia Public Works director Ron Childers has passed away.
Childers was 76 when he passed at his rural Allen home April 29.
Childers retired as the city’s public works director in 2014 after nearly 30 years in that role and an 18-year career at Sauder Tank before shifting to city operations. An Army veteran and a member of the Ball-McColm American Legion Post 5, Childers was also active in both Quail Unlimited and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Cremation is planned. Visitation is scheduled for 6-7 pm May 13 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. A private service will be held later.
Childers’ services will follow those of one-time Police Chief Scott Cronk, who passed away April 30 at Kansas Heart Health in Wichita. Visitation will be at White Auditorium at 1 pm Wednesday, followed by the service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
