The Emporia State baseball team was ousted in the first round of the MIAA Tournament by host Missouri Southern 7-3 Wednesday afternoon in Joplin, Mo. The Lions blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to take the lead and never trailed in the game. ESU got a run back in the third on a Peyton Lewis RBI single before Brady Unrein doubled in a run in the seventh to tie the game, but the Hornet bullpen gave up a homer as the Lions retook the lead 3-2 through seven. ESU knotted it up with a Logan Myers solo shot in the eighth but a squeeze bunt and three-run blast plated four runs for the Lions in the bottom half of the inning. Cade Barton recovered from the early homer to go four innings and give up just those two runs, but the back of the bullpen couldn’t hold as Ryan Sauter (1-2) took the loss. The Hornets end their season at 23-25.
