It won’t be a drought-buster, but some much-needed rainfall is apparently on tap for the KVOE listening area through Thursday evening.
Projections from the National Weather Service indicate 0.50-1 inch of rain areawide through sunset Thursday, with the best chance of accumulating rainfall Wednesday afternoon and early evening. Current totals:
*KVOE studios: 0.08 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.06 inches
*Eureka Milliken Airport: 0.10 inches
This is the first measurable precipitation for the KVOE studios this month after 3.7 inches of rain in April.
Area residents remain largely in moderate drought despite occasional rainfall last month. The US Drought Monitor map will update Thursday morning, but the current map indicates moderate drought mostly along and west of a line from Eskridge to Burlingame to Reading to Lebo to Madison. Abnormally dry conditions cover northwest Lyon and much of southern Morris County, along with parts of Coffey, Greenwood and Osage counties.
