The benefits and challenges surrounding exports were discussed as part of the Kansas Exporter Roundtable held in Emporia on Wednesday.
Kansas Department of Commerce International Trade Program Manager Becca Valdovinos Kaye says exports are vital to a healthy overall economy.
Agreeing with that general sentiment was Glendo President Chris Correll, who says exporting helps to expand business in different ways than domestic sales. However, exporters like Glendo are trying to navigate a number of challenges. Language barriers are a longstanding concern. Of more recent note are the on-again, off-again tariffs over the last five months.
For Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Rebeca Herrera, events like this can help local businesses even if they couldn’t attend.
The event was part of the Chamber’s monthly Luncheon Series. Herrera says conversations between the Department of Commerce and Emporia Area Chamber actually started last year for the event to be held here.
