The Emporia High softball team rallied in the second game of its doubleheader against Manhattan Monday night at Peter Pan Park.
After dropping game one, 3-1, the Lady Spartans used a late rally for a 5-4 victory in game two.
In game one, Manhattan scored two in the first inning and one in the fourth. The Lady Spartans scored their lone run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Molly Williams. Emporia High was held to two hits in the game. Alivia Barrett went the distance, allowing three runs on five hits and eight strikeouts.
In game two, both teams scored a run in the first, with Barrett tying the game with an RBI double. Manhattan took a 2-1 lead in the second and extended it to 4-1 through 4 1/2 innings. The Lady Spartans rallied away with Chloe Steele scoring on a steal of home in the fourth. In the fifth, Williams scored on an error and Barrett tied the game with her second RBI double. In the sixth, after a lead-off triple by Yzabel Ultreras, Mackayleigh Arrington drove in the eventual game-winning run with a single.
Barrett allowed four runs on 12 hits and had two strikeouts while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said it was a team effort to bounce back after dropping the first game.
Emporia High (9-15, 1-9 Centennial) hosts Topeka West for its final regular season doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday at Peter Pan Park.
