It was quick work for the Emporia High baseball team on Senior Night against Wichita Southeast at Soden’s Grove.
The Spartans took the opener, 15-0, in four innings and the finale, 14-1, in five innings.
In game one, Emporia High got a shutout from Andrew Ruxton, allowing five hits in the game. Nine of the Spartans’ 15 runs came in the fourth inning. Ruxton said it was a good feeling to get the shutout in his final outing on the mound at home.
Owen Ruge went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Luke Marshall went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. In game two, Wichita Southeast led 1-0, but the Spartans scored the next 14 runs en route to the sweep. 11 of their runs were scored in the third. Micah Gray earned the win on the mound, going three innings, allowing one run and four strikeouts. Chase Harrington went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said the Spartans did their job on Senior Night.
Emporia High enters regionals with a 15-10 record and will find out its regional assignment on Saturday.
