Forecast details for severe storm activity Sunday is holding constant, however, the risk category for storm potential Monday has escalated.
The National Weather Service has increased the risk potential for Monday from a slight risk to an enhanced risk mirroring concerns for Sunday. Based on the latest details, storms could begin devleoping in the mid to late afternoon hours Sunday along and south of a warm front expected to roll into the area.
This timeframe is notable because Emporia High School, Burlingame, Chase County, Council Grove, Eureka and Wabaunsee all have graduation activities planned for the afternoon. All hazards will be possible with any storms that develop, with the main concerns being large hail, damaging winds and potential tornado development.
Isolated flooding will also be a concern with several rounds of heavy rainfall expected with any storms that may develop. NWS says early morning precipitation on Sunday could “negatively impact” the severity of storms that develop.
That said, the National Weather Service encourages people to review their safety plans, make sure warning devices like severe weather radios work correctly and monitor upcoming forecasts.
