Jobless rates are up for Emporia and Lyon County.
The latest report from the Kansas Department of Labor indicates Emporia’s April unemployment rate is at 5.2 percent, up from 4.7 percent in March and 2.9 percent from a year ago. Lyon County went from 4.5 percent in March to 4.9 percent in April, above the 2.8 percent mark last year.
Lyon County now has the highest area unemployment rate after neighboring counties either had their jobless rates go down barely, like Chase, Morris and Osage counties, or went down at least 0.3 percentage points like Coffey, Greenwood and Wabaunsee counties. Morris County has the area low at an even 3 percent.
The statewide jobless rate is 3.8 percent, unchanged from March and up from 3.4 percent a year ago.
