The Lyon County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission have topics to address as part of a monthly meeting Tuesday.
The Board of Zoning Appeals will meet first, considering a variance request from the city’s building setback requirements.
For the Planning Commission, the main item is a final plat request for property in the 1700 block of Road G — Stormont-Vail’s final layout for a nearly $45 million medical facility. Stormont looks to vacate its current space inside Newman Regional Health’s Medical Partners building, saying a new location will let it modernize and offer state-of-the-art service to area residents. This has advanced over Newman Regional’s objections about potential duplication of certain services like imaging and same-day surgery, as well as projected loss of revenue. This continues a nearly two-year battle between the two hospital systems. Stormont plans to start construction soon if it can gain final regulatory approvals.
Planning Commission members will also discuss a request to vacate a utility easement in the Cottonwood Street right-of-way between First and Second.
The meeting slate begins at 6 pm Tuesday at the Municipal Court Room.
