Local law enforcement will be out in greater force through the end of the month promoting a simple message, “seat belts save lives.”
The Click it or Ticket enforcement effort began May 18 and will continue through June 1. According to Lyon County Sgt. Danny Broyles, officers will be keeping a close eye out for any and all traffic violations, but especially unrestrained drivers and passengers alike.
Broyles tells KVOE News the campaign comes at a good time with the Memorial Day weekend approaching. He says during any holiday period, traffic increases dramatically meaning caution and safety need to as well.
Broyles adds that he and his fellow law enforcement officers hope they do not have to issue any citations noting the main point of the campaign is simply to promote safe driving practices. Last year’s enforcement effort resulted in 48 speeding citations and 11 safety belt citations. Deputies also made 13 “other citations and arrests.”
