Lyon County Commissioners approved the purchase of a new emergency alert system as part of their regular action meeting Thursday morning.
The Rapid Notifications system through Motorola allows for the dissemination of information in emergencies. The total cost of the system is just over $17,000 for five years of service, with the cost to be split between the Emporia Fire Department and Emporia State University Police and Safety, with each agency paying just over $5,900.
Lyon County Emergency Communications will also pay a portion, which will come from the county’s 911 service fund, contractual services, not county tax dollars.
In separate business, commissioners also approved a contract with Civia Inc. for GovAi software totaling $8,500 to be paid from the multi-year fund. Commissioners also approved a new Noxious Weed Department Contract for 4100 gallons of chemicals from MFA Chemical, not to exceed $17 per gallon.
Unbound Gravel Race Director Sean Thurman was also authorized to use the pilot car program for the upcoming Unbound Gravel series of racesd next weekend. The closure of Locust Street from Main to Fifth in Americus from 10 am May 31 to 3 am Sunday, June 1 and a quote from MITYLITE for 40 rectangular tables for the Anderson Building totaling more than $13,000 also gained appproval.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission chambers.
