Recent rain didn’t clear the drought from the KVOE listening area, but it put a dent into it in some spots.
Last week, there was severe drought from far west Lyon County across most of Chase and Marion counties. Those areas have been downgraded to moderate drought after upwards of 3-5 inches or more of rainfall Sunday night through Tuesday morning.
Also, an area of abnormally dry conditions — the mildest level of drought on the US Drought Monitor scale — has expanded beyond Morris County into central and northwest Lyon County, including Emporia, and across most of Wabaunsee County.
Besides Chase County, moderate drought still affects northeast and south Lyon County, west Coffey County, northwest Greenwood County, extreme west Osage County and southeast Wabaunsee County.
