Prospects of extended rainfall through this holiday weekend are causing some adjustments for certain events and locations.
Some of those adjustments may take place at the last minute. The Jones Aquatic Center is set for its opening weekend beginning Saturday, but temperatures are set to be in the 60s through the Memorial Day weekend. Supervisor Jen Wegener says air temperatures need to be at least 75 degrees to open the pool.
Wegener also says the facility may need to shut down on a temporary basis if lightning or storms are nearby. Reopening the Aquatic Center would be on a case-by-case basis.
Facility hours are 1-6 pm daily. Wegener says the Aquatic Center is fully staffed once it can open. She also says the indoor pool inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center is an option for swimmers if lightning and storms are not in the area.
Meanwhile, organizers of the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial Fish Fry and Car Show have already split activities originally set for Saturday, according to Dianne Smith. The fish fry is now the preliminary event at Harry & Lloyd’s in Americus, starting at 11 am Saturday. The car show, live music and other activities originally set for Saturday are now coming June 7 in Bushong.
There are no planned adjustments for the launch of the Flint Hills Ultra gravel ride near the David Traylor Zoo on Saturday, although lead organizer Bobby Thompson says there will be a meeting Friday evening to discuss potential options.
