A Wisconsin man is dead and two Coffey County residents were hurt in a two-car crash Saturday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened at 10 am on US Highway 75 near Eighth Road, about three miles south of Burlington. Troopers say a car driven by 20-year-old Dallas Reeves of Janesville, Wisconsin, was southbound on US Highway 75 and passing another vehicle when it encountered a northbound pickup driven by 46-year-old Charles Jarrell of LeRoy. Jarrell slowed down and went to the northbound shoulder to avoid a potential wreck, but Reeves did the same thing and the two vehicles collided.
Reeves was pronounced dead. Jarrell suffered potentially serious injuries and was taken to Coffey County Hospital in Burlington for treatment. A passenger, 6-year-old Caleb Jarrell, also of LeRoy, was taken to Coffey County Hospital with suspected minor injuries. All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
