Three Emporia High seniors will get one more round of golf on Wednesday at Emporia Golf Course.
Nolan Jacob, Will Walker and Hudson Sauder made the cut after day one of the Class 5A State Golf Championships. Jacob is currently in 23rd after shooting a round of 74. Jacob said he’s fortunate to have one more round of golf.
Hudson Sauder is in 36th after shooting a round of 76. Will Walker was one of six golfers who shot a 77 and were above the cut line at the conclusion of the round. Emporia High missed the cut as a team finishing in eighth, shooting +21. St. James Academy leads after the first day with an impressive -8, leading by 11 strokes over Goddard-Eisenhower. Maize South is third (+5), Andover is fourth (+9) and Spring Hill and Bishop Carroll are fifth and sixth (+14). Three golfers are tied for the lead at -4: Andover Central’s Colt Farrow, St. James Academy’s Jacob Fratzel and Bishop Carroll’s Max Farber. Eight golfers head into day two after rounds of 70 or lower.
Walker will tee off at 10 a.m. off Hole 10, while Sauder will tee off at Hole 1. Jacob will tee off at 10:10 a.m. off Hole 1.
At the Class 3A State Golf Championships in Garden City, Council Grove’s Drew Buchman after shooting a +1 in round one and is currently in fifth place. Osage City’s Wyatt Bailey missed the cut, finishing +10. At the Class 1A State Championships in Dodge City, Olpe’s Kade Crisp made the cut after a round of +18. Madison’s Cade Hurlburt missed the cut. Hurlburt had a round of +46.
