The area isn’t completely drought-free, but there was a lot of positive movement in the latest update from the US Drought Monitor.
Five to seven inches of widespread rain over the last week and upwards of 15 inches in pockets since May 19 will do that.
The weekly update now shows drought-free conditions for central and northwest Lyon County, including Emporia, as well as most of Coffey County, the southern half of Greenwood County, all of Morris and Osage counties and most of Wabaunsee County. Abnormally dry conditions, the mildest level of drought, now covers northeast Lyon County, all of Chase County, far northwest Coffey County, the north half of Greenwood County and southeast Wabaunsee County.
Rainfall from Wednesday night and Thursday morning will factor into the June 5 update. Showers and storms are also possible Saturday and again Monday night through Wednesday.
