Candidate filings continue to stream in for Lyon County positions as the statewide filing and withdrawal deadline approaches.
On Thursday, Greg Markowitz filed for USD 252 Position 6 currently held by Timothy Bailey. Meanwhile, incumbent Britney Hinrichs filed for re-election to Americus City Council. Former Reading mayor Kevin Sorensen filed for that position as well.
Several filings have been finalized for Lyon County positions this week, but there are still not enough candidates to force an Aug. 5 primary election in any of Lyon County’s races for school board, City Commission, City Council or mayor. State law says there needs to be three times the number of candidates for a given position — plus another candidate — to set a primary.
Lyon County Clerk Amie Jones will discuss the election during KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Friday. The filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon Monday.
