Chances of heavy rainfall by Tuesday have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch for Lyon and surrounding counties.
The watch is from 7 am Tuesday to 7 am Wednesday. Storms could bring rainfall rates of at least an inch an hour and could train, or cover the same ground more than once.
A marginal severe weather risk is in place for the entire KVOE listening area for Monday night into early Tuesday. A marginal-to-slight risk is in effect Tuesday afternoon and evening, with areas west of the Kansas Turnpike in the marginal risk area.
8:30 am Monday: Low-end severe weather risk, prospect of heavy rain ahead for area counties
Another warm, sticky day is in store for the KVOE listening area Monday before stormy conditions return.
After a sunny day with temperatures climbing to 87 degrees at the Emporia Municipal Airport on Sunday, we should have more sunshine with highs in the upper 80s Monday. Showers and embedded thunderstorms are possible by late Monday night into early Tuesday, with a marginal risk of winds up to 60 mph and hail to the size of quarters possible.
More storms are possible Tuesday afternoon and early evening, causing a marginal-to-slight risk for low-end wind and hail. The dividing line is from Eureka to BETO Junction to Lawrence, with the marginal risk area to the west of that line.
Heavy rainfall is possible, and the National Weather Service has a slight risk of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding by Tuesday. The Weather Service is projecting 1.5-2 inches of rain by Tuesday night, with slight to moderate chances of more showers and storms Wednesday night through the upcoming weekend.
