Preliminary hearings are now on the Lyon County docket for two Emporians accused of leading a law enforcement pursuit that led to one Lyon County deputy being hurt this past weekend.
Kaitlynn Mundell is charged with one count of aggravated battery on law enforcement, one count of interference with law enforcement, two counts of flee and elude and other traffic counts. Her preliminary hearing is June 24.
Preston Ashburn faces single counts of battery on law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, possession of marijuana and methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. Ashburn had his first court appearance Tuesday and will have a preliminary hearing June 17.
Both were arrested and charged after a roughly 40-minute incident Saturday morning. Mundell allegedly led a pursuit starting north of Emporia as the Unbound Gravel elite 200-mile races were getting started in downtown. Lyon County deputies called off the chase as they repositioned their resources in an effort to protect Unbound riders. Mundell’s pickup allegedly hit a cruiser driven by Deputy Doug Stump, sending him to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. The two were arrested near Eighth and Merchant.
