New Emporia State women’s basketball coach MJ Baker made another addition to her new staff on Saturday. The program announced on Instagram that Josh Boland had been hired as an assistant coach. Boland had served last season at Johnson County Community College helping the Lady Cavaliers to a 34-1 record, a Jayhawk Conference title, and the 2025 NJCAA DII National Championship. Boland spent 2024 as an assistant at Henderson State University. He had previously served at JCCC from 2014-19 before becoming a student assistant coach at Pittsburg State from 2019-21. He then left coaching and worked in the admissions department at Drury and Kansas State University. The Gorillas went 31-20 in his two years on staff. In his six years at Johnson County, the Lady Cavs went an astonishing 184-20 with three conference titles, three NJCAA Tournament appearances with two national championships (the first in 2015) and a runner-up finish in 2017. Boland attended JCCC and served as a student manager from 2008-11. An Overland Park, Kan. native, Boland attended Olathe East High School before graduating from Pittsburg State.
