The Emporia Lions Club has announced grant winners through its Cleve Cook award program.
Club spokesman Gary Post says over $20,000 is going out:
*Emporia Senior Center: $600 for a resource room
*Hetlinger Developmental Services: $2,500 for greenhouse items
*Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Lyon County: $1,500
*Lyon County Master Gardeners: $2,000 for a garden rebuild
*Cottonwood Community Building: $6,000 for a porch roof
*Southwick House: $12,500 this year and another $12,500 next year for building construction
Funding is on an application basis. Post says this is good news to announce.
Separately, the club recently had another significant donation, although this has nothing to do with money. Post says over 3,000 pairs of glasses were taken to the Lions National Convention late last month, following Helen Keller’s charge over a century ago for Lions members to be “knights of the blind.” Eyeglasses will now get distributed around the world through Lions International.
