Planning and purchases for various needs will be part of the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education meeting this week.
Board members will get the first reading of the district’s latest strategic planning effort, with conversations about student achievement, culture and communication, resources, data, salaries and benefits and related PowerSchool information. Separately, board members will have a first reading of a joint task force proposal to handle mill levy reduction ideas, with other entities including the city of Emporia, Lyon County and Emporia Recreation Commission if approved by all listed groups. Another first reading involves a board policy update.
Purchase items include a change order for replacing a boiler at Emporia High, as well as what’s called a “storefront door package” for the school’s boiler room, along with two route buses for the district and over 30 vape detectors for Emporia High.
One executive session is planned for student matters.
The meeting starts at 6 pm at Mary Herbert Education Center.
