We are just a little more than two months out from welcoming the Wall that Heals to Emporia, and organizers are “In the home stretch.”
That’s according to organizer and local veteran Clay Childs, who provided an update on preparations for the wall’s arrival during KVOE’s Morning Show Tuesday.
Childs says that not only did organizers recently hit their $25,000 fundraising goal, they actually exceeded it.
Fellow organizer and veteran Richelle Birk says hitting their fundraising goal was a “Huge relief.”
The wall, which is a mobile replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C., will arrive in Emporia on August 14 and remain through the 17th. Local veteran and organizer Ed Rathke has stated many times over the past few months that this will not only be a great thing for the citizens of Emporia, but also those from outside the community.
He reiterated that point during Tuesday’s interview, saying they are doing all they can to reach as many people as they can to promote the wall’s impending arrival.
Donations and volunteers are still being accepted for the Wall That Heals’ arrival in Emporia. If you are interested in donating money or your time, you can email TheWallThatHealsEmporia@Gmail.com.
