A third Emporia High coach has stepped down within the last two months.
EHS Boys Basketball coach Lee Baldwin confirmed to KVOE Sports on Tuesday that he has stepped down after three years as head coach. Baldwin said the decision was an easy one to make.
Baldwin’s next chapter will take him to Burlington as the next principal at Burlington High School. The USD 244 Board of Education approved Baldwin’s hiring on Monday night.
Baldwin guided the Spartans to three 10-plus win seasons, 15 in his first season, 13 in his second season and 12 this past season. Baldwin was the Centennial League Coach of the Year during his first season and was also named KVOE’s Coach of the Year. Baldwin said whoever the new coach is fortunate to work with some key pieces returning for this winter.
Baldwin was hired to replace Beau Welch in 2022 after Welch was named Athletic Director. Baldwin finishes his three years at EHS with a 40-23 record and finishes his 12-year coaching career with a 186-86 record with stops in Goddard and Cheney.
A search for a new basketball coach is underway. The new coach will make its debut at EHS on December 5 when the Spartans host Lansing.
