More than three years after gaining voter approval in February of 2022, Osage County is set to open the doors of its new law enforcement facility next week.
The Osage County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it will host a grand opening celebration for the new facility at 10 am Tuesday, June 17th. The new law enforcement complex will more than quadruple the current number of jail beds from 30 to over 140. It will also house all aspects of county law enforcement and emergency management.
Funding came through a four-year, half-cent sales tax to avoid any possible increase in property taxes for county residents, and Sheriff Chris Wells has said before that the facility could generate upwards of $1.4 million for county operations even if jail beds are 80 percent full.
