Soft openings may yield firm numbers for a pair of Emporia businesses.
Wagon Wheel Grill & Bar actually had a soft reopening at 2918 West Highway 50 Suite C and was extremely busy for both its lunchtime and dinner shifts. Owner Kelli Mai says it was an impressive restart.
Wagon Wheel had been at 2909 West Ninth for years before moving in mid-December. Mai tells KVOE News says it was tough, but she says the move is good for patrons and good for the business.
Meanwhile, Gilded Fates opened inside Flinthills Mall. The business offers card games and board games for purchase — and also for in-store play, whether for individuals or small groups. With malls largely occupied by regional or national chain-style businesses, Gilded Fates co-owner Grace Bair sees her local business as trend-setting.
Gilded Fates has been at least two years in the making. Bair and her husband, co-owner Derek Bair, credited Lyon County State Bank, Flinthills Mall Manager Clarence Frye and family and friends for their guidance and support.
