A Democrat has announced her run for Kansas governor.
Cindy Holscher been serving in the Statehouse since 2016, first in the House of Representatives before moving to the Senate in 2020. Holscher says she has prioritized tax cuts for the middle class and working families, public school funding and reducing the cost of living while representing District 8 in Johnson County. Besides those policy points, Holscher says her goals are to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as a way to lower the cost of healthcare, housing and childcare, as well as “standing up” for children, farmers, seniors and veterans.
If elected, Holscher would follow Democrat Laura Kelly as leading the state. Kelly is serving her second term in office and is ineligible for a third.
Holscher has not officially filed, according to the Kansas Secretary of State’s website. In fact, the only candidate to file is conservative Republican talk show host Doug Billings. Secretary of State Scott Schwab and former governor and lieutenant governor Jeff Colyer, both Republicans, have announced their intents to run for the office although neither have filed for the office at this time.
