Project funding, levy reductions and after-school programming are all features of the Emporia Recreation Commission board meeting on Monday.
The Rec Commission Board will discuss a Community Development Block Grant application for potential work at DeBauge Family Sports Complex as part of its business. The scope of potential work to be covered by any block grant has not been revealed.
Separately, the board will discuss possible participation in a joint task force for reducing the countywide mill levy. Previous conversations have taken place at USD 253 Emporia Board of Education and Lyon County Commission meetings with no action taken at either meeting last week.
Also, the board will discuss possible work towards after-school programming. The Rec Commission hasn’t specified any connection, but this follows the abrupt decision by the Boys and Girls Club to end its partnership with USD 253 after three years of a 10-year commitment. The Rec Commission had operated its version of an after-school program, Rec Xtra, for 12 years before the district’s partnership with Boys and Girls Club developed.
Other components of Monday’s meeting include impact and pulse statements from the leadership team and an official notice of intent to go above the current revenue-neutral rate.
The meeting starts at 5:30 pm at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
