A preliminary hearing will take place in September in Jacob Garcia’s sexual exploitation case working through Lyon County District Court.
Garcia, age 23 of Emporia, had his first court appearance Monday and was set for a prelim Sept. 11. Ty Wheeler was appointed as defense counsel.
Garcia is charged with nine counts, including five of sexual exploitation of a child and single counts of aggravated indecent liberties, indecent liberties, breach of privacy and internet trading in child sex abuse materials. Court documents listed on the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal indicate two child victims, with ages as old as 15 and 13 and at least intermittent abuse dating back to May 2024.
