Land matters may well dominate the Emporia City Commission meeting slate Wednesday.
During the action session, city commissioners could approve the final plat for Stormont Vail Health’s planned medical office building near West 18th and Road G after approving a development agreement with the Topeka hospital system two weeks ago. The roughly $45 million building will house staff currently operating inside Newman Regional Health’s Cotton O’Neil Clinic and will provide similar services to those already offered in Emporia, although ambulatory surgery will not be allowed for at least six years as part of the agreement.
Separately and nearby, commissioners could annex property for the proposed Cedarbrook Meadows housing and commercial development in the 4500 block of West 18th, or between Jones Aquatic Center and Road G, and then amend the official parcel types for that area. If approved, the parcel types would go from Lyon County Agricultural to City of Emporia Commercial and Single-Family Detached.
Commissioners will also hold a public hearing for a Community Development Block Grant to benefit improvements at the DeBauge Family Soccer Complex operated by the Emporia Recreation Commission. The city is seeking a $1.5 million grant with a $1.5 million city match and additional matching funds possibly totaling $4.65 million.
For the study meeting to follow, commissioners will discuss sanitary sewer overflows, appropriation and sponsorship requests, an online community dashboard — and snow removal policy after challenges this past winter.
The action meeting begins at 11 am Wednesday at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1AB.
