One of two defendants accused of leading a law enforcement pursuit leading to injuries for a Lyon County deputy late last month has accepted a plea agreement.
Preston Ashburn had been charged with battery on and interference with law enforcement, as well as drug and paraphernalia possession. On Tuesday, Ashburn pleaded no contest to a count of possessing methamphetamine.
Sentencing is Aug. 4.
Ashburn, age 43 of Emporia, was allegedly the passenger in a pickup truck driven by Kaitlynn Mundell as part of an incident that started north of Emporia on May 31 as Unbound Gravel’s 200-mile races were launching. For the most part, the chase stayed north of Emporia, although the pickup crashed into a deputy cruiser, sending Lyon County Deputy Doug Stump to Newman Regional Health with minor injuries. Mundell and Ashburn were arrested shortly afterward near Eighth and Merchant.
Mundell is tentatively set for a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Lyon County District Court.
